preguntas sobre el arte, inquietudes que me atreví a responder ‘’

Lindsay Méndez Alvarado
nacida en San José de Costa Rica el 09 marzo de 1983.
Desde muy niña fui
tocada por la magia de las artes, pero es en mi edad adulta cuando mi pasión por la pintura se acrecienta; mi amor comienza
por el arte clásico, pasándose por el contemporáneo para luego lograr un
matrimonio entre ambos, me describo como una artista autodidacta y curiosa, esa
curiosidad me ha llevado a experimentar un poco todas las tendencias (realismo,
impresionismo, arte pop y la pintura clásica) me gusta llenar mi paleta con todos
los colores, colores fríos y colores cálidos, con ambos se pueden lograr
hermosas obras, el manejo y dominio de
todos los colores es de vital importancia para todo artista, su entendimiento y
aplicación de la luz, las sombras, la forma, la perspectiva y el fondo.
¿Qué
significa dedicarse a las Artes
Plásticas?
Comencé
trazando algunas líneas que resultaron ser bocetos de dibujos, fue una especie
de encuentro con un ‘’Yo interno y mágico’’. Una salida, un escape, viví esta
experiencia en un momento difícil de mi vida y fue un rescate, una conexión
conmigo misma de una forma más directa y honesta, en este momento no me
imaginaba como artista, no era mi intención recorrer el camino de entrega a la
inspiración que causan los mares, los colores, los poemas que se pintan, las
historias que se narran con los pinceles y sin querer comencé a dar pasos por
aquella ruta, me coloque las zapatillas de la artista y pintora y continúe dando pasos, con la ilusión que se siente al ver
cada dibujo terminado, poco a poco esa ilusión se convirtió en torbellino por
las artes de manera espontanea (autodidacta) y
plasme mis sensibilidades sobre los lienzos, me alentaron a exponer mis
pinturas en público, tres de ellas se vendieron el mismo día, esto transformó mi
vida, me hizo saber que “Dios ha puesto un talento en mi’’. Creé pinturas
ecológicas y a los turistas les encantaban, esto fortaleció mi confianza y
adquirí mayor seguridad, el arte paso a ser mi pasión.
Describo mi experiencia
para que sirva de ejemplo y motivación, al nacer mi hijo menor Benjamín, me
llené de ilusión, amor y ternura, me inspiró, decidí inmortalizar una escena
con él “la lactancia’’ pues este acto
simboliza el intercambio existente entre la madre y el niño (el amor más puro,
la ternura infinita, la alegría sin límites, el bienestar, el calor y la
confianza, además del alimento, la protección maternal, la seguridad y por
sobre todo “La vida”) me tomó alrededor de 6 meses terminar esta obra, fui muy
cuidadosa en cada detalle y fue algo maravilloso desde la primera pincelada por
que en cada línea iba dejando impregnada ambas almas. La obra representa la maternidad y congela en el tiempo la
ternura de una madre en su espacio más intimo, de piernas cruzadas sosteniendo
a su bebe entre sus brazos mientras le alimenta con su pecho, ambos se miran a
los ojos en ese instante tan mágico. Es esta una de mis obras más importantes la
misma fue expuesta en el Banco Nacional de Costa Rica y seleccionada entre las
mejores obras, producto de esto fui invitada para una entrevista en vivo en un programa
radial, de ahí en adelante he continuado mis estudios artísticos, ampliando mis
conocimientos, trabajando y aprendiendo nuevas técnicas, he colaborado con el
trabajo artístico de reconocidos pintores de mi país como asistente de
restauración de piezas de arte y pintura, cosa que me ha ayudado a nutrirme.
¿Qué
es el Arte?
Si me preguntan por el
arte debo responder “es un estilo de vida, es poesía, es pasión, es saber
traducir el leguaje del universo, es atemporal, el arte es infinito”…. El arte
es un poema que habla por sí solo, según el poema que está en el interior de tu
ser, ya sea como artista o como espectador.
‘’El arte nos educa nos
sana, nos sensibiliza nos hace mejores personas por que crea una conexión entre
el artista y el espectador, inspira las etapas más lindas de la vida como es la
niñez, maternidad y los aspectos sociales’’
El arte viene para
sanar, lo que la medicina no puede (las almas, los corazones) por eso es
importante incentivar a nuestros niños para crear y construir y puedan crecer
sanos y felices.
¿Cual
crees sea la labor del artista hoy frente a la sociedad?
El rol del artista no
es solamente plasmar belleza, también debe despertar consciencia en el
espectador, debe motivar e inspirar y lo más importante que su mensaje toque
corazones. Lograr conectar con las personas, que la obra inquiete, invite a soñar
y a ser mejores ciudadanos y mejorar cada día.
El artista con su obra debe trasmitir, sensibilizar, motivar e inspirar;
la obra que no despierte ese poder, solo es decorativo.
¿El
arte debe generar un proceso de reflexión o simplemente es un deleite visual?
Desde luego debe
generar un proceso de reflexión, inquietar y despertar “Conciencias”.
¿Tu
obra es el resultado de una inspiración o la respuesta a un hecho de protesta?
Definitivamente es
inspiración, deseo plasmar y generar paz desde mis lienzos, hay suficiente caos
en el mundo para aportar protestas, en su lugar es mejor que
despertemos consciencias. La política, la educación, la cultura, la salud,
deben apuntar en una misma dirección, que es el bienestar de la sociedad, una
ciudadanía feliz es la construcción de un país potencia (no con armas de fuego,
mucho menos armas biológicas), la más
bella obra de arte que se pudiera lograr seria la paz y la felicidad de los
ciudadanos.
En tiempos de crisis y
tormentas debemos aprenden las mejores lecciones, depende de nuestra actitud
transformarlas, en ocasiones las bendiciones vendrán a nuestras vidas
disfrazadas de problemas, tenemos el poder de superarlas y conquistarlas, aunque
pienses que no es posible con valentía, fuerza interior y amor por lo que
emprendas, se puede lograr así que ve adelante y cumple tus sueños.
En mis obras más
recientes, clasifico una colección distinta al arte clásico que acostumbro a
pintar, es un arte más pop, más moderno, más contemporáneo, es traer el pasado
a nuestros días; en arte es un lenguaje universal y atemporal se titula ‘’
Personajes históricos que cambiaron al mundo’’. Viendo tantas noticias mundiales llenas de tanto caos, surge la idea de crear
estas obras inspiradas en personajes que aportaron cosas positivas al mundo ( Eistein, Tesla, Martin Luter King,
Beethoven, Marie Curiel, Nelson Mandela, entre otros) la idea de esta
colección es lograr que el espectador se identifique con el personaje de su
preferencia y puedan crear un cambio
positivo en ellos, pues cada uno de nosotros en diferentes escalas podemos
lograr cambiar el mundo, como artista siento el deber y la responsabilidad de
aportar mi granito de arena de esta manera, como en una frase que me gusta ‘’mucha gente pequeña en pequeños lugares,
haciendo pequeñas cosas, pueden cambiar al mundo’’

Semblance
Lindsay Méndez Alvarado was born in San José, Costa
Rica on March 9, 1983.
From a very young age I was touched by the magic of
the arts, but it is in my adulthood that my passion for painting increases; My
love begins with classical art, passing through contemporary art to later
achieve a marriage between the two, I describe myself as a self-taught and
curious artist, that curiosity has led me to experience a bit all the trends
(realism, impressionism, pop art and the classical painting) I like to fill my
palette with all colors, cold colors and warm colors, with both beautiful works
can be achieved, the management and mastery of all colors is of vital
importance for every artist, their understanding and application of light , the
shadows, the form, the perspective and the background.
What does it mean to
dedicate yourself to the Plastic Arts?
I started by drawing some lines that turned out to be
sketches of drawings, it was a kind of encounter with an "internal and
magical I". An exit, an escape, I lived this experience in a difficult
moment of my life and it was a rescue, a connection with myself in a more
direct and honest way, at this moment I did not imagine myself as an artist, it
was not my intention to walk the path of surrender to the inspiration caused by
the seas, the colors, the poems that are painted, the stories that are told
with the brushes and inadvertently I began to take steps along that route, I
put on the shoes of the artist and painter and continued taking steps , with
the illusion that one feels when seeing each finished drawing, little by little
that illusion became a whirlwind by the arts in a spontaneous way (self-taught)
and I reflected my sensibilities on the canvases, they encouraged me to expose
my paintings in public, three of they were sold the same day, this transformed
my life, it made me know that "God has put a talent in me." I created
ecological paintings and tourists loved them, this strengthened my confidence
and I acquired greater security, art became my passion.
I describe my experience to serve as an example and
motivation, when my youngest son Benjamin was born, I was filled with hope,
love and tenderness, it inspired me, I decided to immortalize a scene with him
"breastfeeding" because this act symbolizes exchange between the mother and the child
(the purest love, infinite tenderness, boundless joy, well-being, warmth and
trust, in addition to food, maternal protection, security and above all
"Life") took me around 6 months to finish this work, I was very
careful in every detail and it was something wonderful from the first
brushstroke because each line was leaving both souls impregnated. The work
represents motherhood and freezes in time the tenderness of a mother in her
most intimate space, cross-legged holding her baby in her arms while feeding
him with her breast, both look into each other's eyes in that magical moment.
This is one of my most important works, it was exhibited at the National Bank
of Costa Rica and selected among the best works, as a result I was invited for
a live interview on a radio program, from then on I have continued my artistic
studies Expanding my knowledge, working and learning new ones, I have
collaborated with the artistic work of renowned painters from my country as an
assistant in the restoration of art and painting pieces, which has helped me
nurture myself.
What is the art?
If they ask me about art, I must answer “it is a
lifestyle, it is poetry, it is passion, it is knowing how to translate the
language of the universe, it is timeless, art is infinite”…. Art is a poem that
speaks for itself, according to the poem that is inside your being, either as
an artist or as a spectator.
"Art educates us, heals us, sensitizes us, makes
us better people because it creates a connection between the artist and the
viewer, inspires the most beautiful stages of life such as childhood,
motherhood and social aspects"
Art comes to heal, what medicine cannot (souls,
hearts) that is why it is important to encourage our children to create and
build and to grow up healthy and happy.
What do you think is the
work of the artist today in front of society?
The role of the artist is not only to capture beauty,
it must also awaken awareness in the viewer, it must motivate and inspire and,
most importantly, that its message touches hearts. To be able to connect with
people, make the work restless, invite them to dream and be better citizens and
improve every day. The artist with his work must transmit, sensitize, motivate
and inspire; the work that does not awaken that power, is only decorative.
Should art generate a
process of reflection or is it simply a visual delight?
Of course, it must generate a process of reflection,
concern and awaken "Consciences".
Is your work the result of
an inspiration or the response to an act of protest?
It is definitely inspiration, I want to capture and
generate peace from my canvases, there is enough chaos in the world to bring
protests, instead it is better that we awaken consciences. Politics, education,
culture, health, must point in the same direction, which is the welfare of
society, a happy citizenship is the construction of a powerful country (not
with firearms, much less biological weapons), the most beautiful work of art
that could be achieved would be the peace and happiness of the citizens.
In times of crisis and storms we must learn the best
lessons, depending on our attitude to transform them, sometimes blessings will
come to our lives disguised as problems, we have the power to overcome and
conquer them, even if you think that it is not possible with courage, inner
strength and love for what you undertake, it can be achieved so go ahead and
fulfill your dreams.
In my most recent works, I classify a collection
different from the classical art that I usually paint, it is a more pop art,
more modern, more contemporary, it is bringing the past to our days; in art, it
is a universal and timeless language, it is entitled '' Historical figures who
changed the world ''. Seeing so many world news full of so much chaos, the idea
of creating these works inspired by characters that contributed positive
things to the world (Eistein, Tesla, Martin Luter King, Beethoven, Marie
Curiel, Nelson Mandela, among others) arises the idea of this collection is
to achieve that the viewer identifies with the character of their preference
and can create a positive change in them, because each of us on different
scales can achieve change the world, as an artist I feel the duty and
responsibility to contribute my bit in this way, as in a phrase that I like ''
many small people in small places, doing small things, can change the world ''

Ambassador of Peace for the World at the World Summit of the Arts in Defense of
Peace, Life and Environmental Protection. 2020
Participant in national and
international exhibitions, bringing art in conscience towards the values of
the arts, peace and life.
Recently awarded by the
National Award for Academic Excellence towards the Values of the Arts and
Peace.
President in Costa Rica for
the World Summit of the Arts for Peace and Life.
